England captain Harry Kane played with a hat-trick as they cruised to victory against Bulgaria at Wembley to maintain their 100% record in Euro 2020 qualifying.
Gareth Southgate’s side made it three wins together with 14 goals scored, hardly needing as they cleared another obstacle to next summer’s showpiece in their path to split sweat.
Raheem Sterling and kane were mortal once more as England constructed momentum out of a low-key first 45 minutes.
The group joined to give England a lead when Sterling pounced on an error by Bulgaria goalkeeper Plamen Iliev at a goal-kick to set Kane for a end on the flip up.
Kane scored England’s second from the spot four minutes the penalty granted for the foul of Nikolay Bodurov on Marcus Rashford he crossed for Sterling to bundle home the third in the 55th minute.
Tottenham’s Kane completed his treble with a different spot-kick after he had been hauled down from Kristian Dimitrov to carry his outstanding global listing to 25 targets from 40 appearances, with this his next hat-trick after achieving the identical feat against Panama in the 2018 World Cup.
Southgate, together with success was able to provide a senior introduction to the Mason Mount of Chelsea as England had the perfect preparation for another qualifier from Kosovo.
Kane and Sterling will assert the headlines for England after again and rightly so they are a set of attackers operating at the very top of their game.
Kane’s hat-trick requires him past the 1966 World Cup closing hat-trick hero Sir Geoff Hurst, who scored 24 goals in 49 appearances for the Three Lions of England.
Sterling set him up for his first and Kane refunded the compliment for England’s third, their own partnership providing an attacking weapon which will cause difficulties for defences to Southgate and growing in stature.
Sterling’s pace was a constant threat to a true quite bad Bulgaria side but, in comparison with Kane, he managed to lift England from a poor first-half screen on to a level that eventually made it a matter of how many they would score.
England have been introduced together with what, out of Group A, looks like a comfortable passing to Euro 2020 to the outside – however the manner in which they have drifted apart the Czech Republic, Montenegro and now Bulgaria has been quietly impressive.
England may have come at the 2018 World Cup in Russia and the Uefa Nations League Finals of also the summer, however it seems a formality they will find another crack at ending the decades of hurt.
In fact, England and manager Gareth Southgate could have asked for a draw compared to the one it is hard to observe some of the teams in their group severely bothering them and they have been given.
The single problem England may face is summer that, once again, the first test of the credentials, aspirations and advancement may yet arrive from the Euros.
Southgate should make certain England are prepared and match sharp for this, both with performances and by building a squad that may strike the ground running once the serious action starts at Euro 2020.
England may not have tests prior to so Southgate will need to use games and time wisely to assemble a squad that is eventually in shape to get over the line when it matters.
England striker Harry Kane speaking to ITV:”First half we got caught on the counter a few timeswe mentioned at half-time we needed to try and come out and get an early goal and that’s what we did. It.
“It’s great for [Raheem Sterling] he’s taken his team form to global form, he’s an amazing player. We like playing together, we all do.”
England director Gareth Southgate talking to ITV:”I think it improved as the match went on. We did not have to over-complicate items. We seemed dangerous, at times we took a few bits. Their creation caused us difficulties out of ownership.
“In a game like that you’ve got to create sure the concentration is right. I felt we had sufficient firepower. I’m not sure it is complacency – every team is going to have some moments, you have to be certain to see the runs but I pleased. A few of the attacking play was really exciting.”
